How much water does AI use?
LouisianAI does not publish a generic gallons-per-query figure for AI. Water use is a permit-by-permit question. The only sourced Louisiana campus volumes today are Meta Hyperion's reported 1.5 million gallon/day baseline and 23 million gallon/day peak allowance.
There is no honest single number
Search interest for "how much water does AI use" often wants one gallons-per-prompt figure. LouisianAI does not invent that number. Cooling design, water source, discharge path, and permit limits differ by campus, and most Louisiana projects have not published a daily-gallon filing.
The sourced path is the Louisiana water topic hub plus each project profile. This page recovers the general query without replacing /topics/water.
What is sourced for Meta Hyperion
Times-Picayune reporting, citing state records, puts Hyperion's baseline at about 1.5 million gallons per day.
The Cenla Report's review of state authorizations puts the peak-conditions allowance at up to 23 million gallons per day, or about 8.4 billion gallons per year.
The campus cooling method is not in the public record. A Boeuf River withdrawal authorization (WD-26-RIC-04) shows a water-supply arrangement; LouisianAI does not infer a cooling design from that permit.
What is sourced for Amazon / STACK
Amazon has not published a daily-gallon water-use figure comparable to Hyperion.
The sourced public commitment is up to $400 million in regional water infrastructure alongside the Caddo and Bossier campuses, plus a $250,000 community fund that Amazon says includes local water-quality projects.
Hut 8 and Applied Digital
Hut 8 River Bend is sited for river-adjacent cooling on the Mississippi River corridor. No operator-published daily-gallon figure is in the LouisianAI water profile.
Applied Digital Delta Forge 1 likewise has no sourced daily-gallon withdrawal in the public record. Cooling claims stay unverified until an LDEQ, parish, or operator filing names the volume.
